- @t5@f00The race for the smallest hard drive
- continues with the new serie of drives
- from the American based company 'ICD'.
- They produced the so-called Novia 20i
- internal hard- drive for the Amiga
- (which is placed where usually the
- internal drive is). The Novia 20i is
- a 2 inch harddrive offering you a
- maximum of 20 MB storage, at a
- ridiculously high price of 400 Pounds.
-
- Even more ridiculous prices coming
- up !! The new model is called the Pris
- ma, it's a 3.5 inch internal harddrive
- and is installed at exactly the same
- place as the Novia 20i. The 3.5 inch
- disc means it will be able to contain
- more MB's: either 52 or 105 (strange

- quantities??). Names are: Prisma 52i
- or Prisma 105i (very original names
- eh) and cost respectively 650 and 900
- Dollar.
- To use the new drives you must have
- 1MB of RAM in your machine. The drives
- are connected directly to the 68000
- chip using a new kind of interface
- made by Quantum of America ( access
- time 11 M.secs) and will be placed on
- the internal diskdrive spot (after the
- 3.5 internal is removed ofcoz). This
- will leave the external hard disc
- connector free for your use (plug in
- another Action Replay !!).
- But what will happen to the internal
- 3.5?? That's what I wondered, in fact
- but this problem has also been solved.

- @t5(well, not really). When you have
- installed the system, the manual
- advises you to throw away the good old
- Chinon (or whatever is in there)
- drive. With the hard-drive comes a
- boot- selector that will allow you to
- emulate an external drive into df0:..
- This means you need to have an
- external drive to be able to run your
- Amiga ever again, so add the price of
- an external to the price of this
- hard-disc as well... So... Buy this
- or not? The Novia is designed for
- people that want to make their Amiga
- portable. But the A500 is much to big
- for that, so there's no real use for
- this. Fact is, of course, the VERY
- fast access-time of this drive, but
- the price remains ridiculous, there
- are drives with a larger capacity that
- are cheaper, but of course suffer a
- @^
- slower access - time. Actually, I
- @t5really can't imagine who would buy a
- drive like this, unless the price of
- the drive went down drastically, or
- unless the protable Amiga was
- introduced at last... And the good
- old A590 is coming down in price quite
- fast, and depite of its vacuum-
- cleaner- like noise you can live with
- it, and there are great speed-up
- packages available, even packages that
- enhance the storage to up to 100 MB...
