  6. continues with the new serie of drives
  7. from the American based company 'ICD'.
  8. They  produced the so-called Novia 20i
  9. internal  hard-  drive  for  the Amiga
  10. (which  is  placed  where  usually the
  11. internal  drive is).  The Novia 20i is
  12. a  2  inch  harddrive  offering  you a
  13. maximum   of   20  MB  storage,  at  a
  14. ridiculously high price of 400 Pounds.

  16. Even  more  ridiculous  prices  coming
  17. up !! The new model is called the Pris
  18. ma, it's a 3.5 inch internal harddrive
  19. and is installed at  exactly the  same
  20. place as the Novia 20i. The  3.5  inch
  21. disc means it will be able to  contain
  22. more  MB's: either 52 or 105  (strange

  27. quantities??). Names  are: Prisma  52i
  28. or  Prisma  105i (very  original names
  29. eh) and cost  respectively 650 and 900
  30. Dollar.
  31. To  use  the new drives you must  have
  32. 1MB of RAM in your machine. The drives
  33. are  connected  directly to the  68000
  34. chip  using  a new kind  of  interface
  35. made by  Quantum  of  America ( access 
  36. time 11 M.secs) and will be placed  on
  37. the internal diskdrive spot (after the
  38. 3.5  internal  is removed ofcoz). This
  39. will  leave  the  external  hard  disc 
  40. connector free for your  use  (plug in
  41. another Action Replay !!).
  42. But  what  will happen to the internal
  43. 3.5?? That's what I wondered, in  fact
  44. but this problem has also been solved.

  47. @t5(well,  not  really).   When  you have
  48. installed   the   system,  the  manual
  49. advises you to throw away the good old
  50. Chinon   (or  whatever  is  in  there)
  51. drive.   With  the  hard-drive comes a
  52. boot-  selector that will allow you to
  53. emulate  an external drive into df0:..
  54. This   means   you  need  to  have  an
  55. external  drive to be able to run your
  56. Amiga  ever again, so add the price of
  57. an  external  to  the  price  of  this
  58. hard-disc  as well...  So...  Buy this
  59. or  not?   The  Novia  is designed for
  60. people  that  want to make their Amiga
  61. portable.  But the A500 is much to big
  62. for  that,  so there's no real use for
  63. this.   Fact  is,  of course, the VERY
  64. fast  access-time  of  this drive, but
  65. the  price  remains  ridiculous, there
  66. are drives with a larger capacity that
  67. are  cheaper,  but of course suffer  a
  68. @^
  69. slower   access - time.   Actually,  I
  70. @t5really  can't  imagine who would buy a
  71. drive  like  this, unless the price of
  72. the  drive  went  down drastically, or
  73. unless    the   protable   Amiga   was
  74. introduced  at  last...   And the good
  75. old A590 is coming down in price quite
  76. fast,   and   depite  of  its  vacuum-
  77. cleaner-  like noise you can live with
  78. it,   and  there  are  great  speed-up
  79. packages available, even packages that
  80. enhance the storage to up to 100 MB...
